Bulldogs vs Guerreros Battle of Champions

I see some people are a little upset at the article that was done by Vuelta. I decided to take a little bit of time and tell you how I would have written the article. Sorry it will be in English my Spanish is terrible.

BULLDOGS PREVAIL IN EPIC DEFENSIVE BATTLE 19 - 13 OVER THE VISITING NICARAGUAN GUERREROS.

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Desamparados, Costa Rica the Bulldogs of Costa Rica did battle for the right to say they were the Central American Champions of 2010. With La Cosecha serving up the Hotdogs, empanadas, and drinks the Bulldogs and the Warriors took to the field for the first meeting between the Central American neighbors. The game began with the Bulldogs kicking off to the Visiting Guerreros. The battle tested Bulldog Defense known as the D-Pack held and in 3 plays the Guerreros had to punt. A bad snap on the Punt led to the great field position, but the Bulldogs were about to experience a huge blow and setback for the rest of the afternoon. Garin Gustafson turned and handed the ball to the Bulldogs MVP Rheinard Weiss and Weiss pushed his way forward for a gain of 8 yards and first down. On the play Weiss came off the field limping with a badly sprained ankle, and wouldn't see action the rest of the day. The first quarter ended with the score 6 to 0 in favor of the Bulldogs. The second quarter was more of the same, an intense defensive battle with huge hits and big plays. Both offenses struggled to get things going. The Bulldogs had several big plays called back due to penalties and mistakes. Early in the second quarter Gustafson found Benjamin Chaverri with a long fade pass down the left hand sideline for a TD. With the Bulldogs leading 13-0 and the defense playing well Garin Gustafson continued to shoulder the load and tried to make things happen on offense. The Guerreros D was upto the challenge. Late in the second quarter Gustafson rolled out to his right and threw an out route, that the Guerreros Cornerback read and made a great play to get the interception. This set the Guerreros up in great position on the Bulldogs 12 yardline. After being stuffed on first down for no yards, the Guerreros went play action and found a receiver open in the endzone for a Touchdown. Halftime came with the Bulldogs leading 13 - 7. In the second half the Guerreros Defense came up big. They held the Bulldogs to no points while injuring David Adler who had filled in for Weiss at Runningback. With Adler and Weiss out Dean Mooke filled in at Tailback and Anthony Feeney filled in as the fullback. Gustafson was without his major weapons and the Guerrero Defense started pinning their ears back and began playing without abandon. The Bulldog Defense continued to be stifling until late in the 4th quarter. The Guerreros found some success throwing the ball. They scored a TD on a running play to tie the game up. The Guerreros went for two but the stingy Bulldog Defense came up huge with Edge Emile and Company stuffed the run which left the game tied with Two minutes remaining. The Bulldogs received the kick off and went 3 and out punting the ball back to the Guerreros. The Guerreros Drove the ball down into Bulldog Territory and with 2 secs left they attempted to kick the game winning FG. On the FG attempt Danny Monney shot through the line of scrimmage and blocked the FG which was picked up by the kicker and immediately Dropped by Reuben Delgado. We go to overtime. Overtime rules are NCAA based. Each team gets the ball at the opposing teams 25. They have the ability to make one first down while trying to score a TD or a FG. Once the possession is over it then goes over to the opposing team and they try to do the same. If one team hasn't scored more then the other after one possession of the ball the teams switch ends of the field and begin the process again until someone wins. The Guerreros being the Visiting team called tails during the coin flip which landed heads. The Bulldogs chose to go Defense first. After 3 downs with no movement the Guerreros lined up for a FG that was pulled left and outside the uprights. The Bulldogs need 3 points to win the game, but Anthony Feeney, Garin Gustafson and Ray Rodriquez had a different idea. The Guerreros were fast and pushing hard in the middle stuffing everything in sight. This prompted the Bulldogs to Bring in Ray Rodriquez to fill in at the slot receiver position. The Bulldogs faked a run up into the Middle and handed the ball to Rodriguez on a reverse. Rodriguez picked up a sweet block from Benjamin Chaverri and then used his speed and ability to get him into the endzone untouched. The crowd and the Bulldog sideline went crazy. Helmets went flying and cheers echoed throughout the stadium. The two teams lined up shook hands and congratulated each other. The Guerreros played with honor, pride, and respect. They are a classy organization and should walk away heads held high. The Bulldogs huddled up and gave a cheer of Guerreros for our neighbors to the north, and then they came to the sideline in front of the fans and lead the cheer of OLE OLE OLE TICO TICO..... so ended a great day of football. The Guerreros have extended the invitation to play in Nicaragua and are anxious for a rematch. That is for another time. Right now it’s off to Cebolla Verde to enjoy a cold beer and listen to some FOOTBALL TALL TALES about the huge plays and big hits that happened during the game.
